For Your Family

Having the following information in place will make a difficult situation a bit easier for your family after your passing. Keep these documents in a safe place and make sure you tell someone where you keep them. These can be paper documents or files on an external hard drive.

Important Documents to Have On Hand

This is a comprehensive list and all items may not apply to everyone.

Include login and password information when applicable.

  • Disability records and insurance
  • Disposition of remains (prepaid burial plot, donor arrangements, etc.)

  • Employment; current earnings and leave statements, contracts, etc.
  • Family tree and other information
  • Funeral or memorial information
  • Household effects inventory
  • Income tax records
  • Information on my inheritances
  • Insurance policies for health, life, long term care, professional, property, vehicle
  • Investment records for stocks, bonds, 401K, IRA, etc.
