Bill VandeVegt, age 82, of Hastings, passed away at his new home in Maple Grove surrounded by his loving family on Sunday Jan 12. Bill was born Aug. 14, 1931 in Hugo, Colorado. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, earning the Bronze Star for heroic actions. Once home, he traveled the states working for United Telephone Systems and while in Montgomery, MN he met the love of his life, Donna. In 1956 they were married and shortly after settled in Hastings.Bill spent his life as a loving husband and father with a strong work ethic and a positive outlook with things most always being, �pretty good, pretty good�. He was an avid golfer all his life. After 35 years with the United Telephone Systems, Bill retired and he and Donna then enjoyed winters together in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He will be missed by family and friends alike. Survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Donna; daughters Diane (Barry) McKane, Trish (Brad) Snyder, June (Scott) Montgomery and 8 grandchildren Mark (Cassandra), Dan, Katie, Rob, Carolyn, Tommy, Nicole and Kyle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mae VandeVegt, and brother Francis. The funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. James Perkl will be held 3 PM Thursday January 16 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth St, Hastings, with visitation 1 hour prior starting at 2p.m. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
