William "Bill" Steven Payne

William “Bill” Steven Payne, age 76 of Apple Valley, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, surrounded by his family. Preceded in death by his parents, Lester & Bertha; and sister, Jean St. Martin. Survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Judy; daughter, Sarah (Brant) Zielinski; grandchildren, Owen and Zoe; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Bill lived a life full of creativity, laughter, and love. Whether he was decorating Christmas trees that could rival those in magazines or creating stunning spaces for his clients, Bill’s eye for beauty and design shone through in everything he did.

He shared a passion for LEGO with Judy, spending countless hours building imaginative displays and attending LEGO shows together. Bill had a great eye for architectural elements — his monthly builds were always clever and fun, and the large builds he and Judy worked on tirelessly brought so many smiles.

Known for his energy, creativity, and quick wit, Bill brought joy to every project — and every person — he encountered. As a boss, mentor, and friend, he inspired those around him with his talent, humor, and generous spirit. Hosting gatherings and sharing good meals were among his favorite ways to connect with others. His dry sense of humor and masterful sarcasm were trademarks that endeared him to everyone who knew him.

Above all, Bill adored his family. He took great pride in his grandchildren, finding happiness in watching them grow, learn, and thrive. His love, humor, and creativity will be forever remembered by all who knew him.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 11am on Monday, November 17, 2025, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 4125 Woodbury Drive, Woodbury, MN 55129, with visitation from 9am to 11am. Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society.
