William K. Collins, age 88, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 21, 2019 at the Woodbury Health Care Center, Woodbury, MN. He was a resident in the Memory Care Unit since August 29, 2016. Bill graduated from Hastings High School in 1948 and received his Bachelor’s Degree in education in 1952 from River Falls College. From 1954 to 1956, he served his country in Japan and Korea. In 1956 he took an English teaching position in Spring Valley, WI until 1962. He then attended Colorado State College in Greely, CO and received his Masters of Art Degree in Educational Administration. Bill became the Principal at Isle High School, Isle, MN from 1965 to 1968. His final years in education was the Principal at Rush City High School, Rush City, MN where he spent his next 13 years, retiring in 1981. He then was employed part time at Koch Refinery for 14 years. He was very proud of his Irish heritage, thus he would like a lot of green attire at his Celebration of Life. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen; brothers Don & Richard “Feets” Collins; brother in law, Paul “Gus” Huberty. He is survived by sisters, Patricia Buska; Margaret Huberty; brother James (Faye) Collins; sisters in law, Kathy (Richard) Collins & Betty (Don) Collins; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel in Hastings, with Father Martin Siebenaler officiating. Interment, with Military Honors provided by the Lyle Russell VFW Post 1210, will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Cemetery. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home. No flowers please. Memorials preferred to Alzheimers Association, Hastings Family Service or the American Legion Post #47.
