Wayne B. Erickson, age 82 of Hastings, died suddenly but peacefully at United Hospital in St. Paul on Thursday morning, February 3, 2022. Wayne Bernard, the son of Raymond and Marcella (Doffing) Erickson, was born on December 21, 1939, in Minneapolis. Wayne attended grade school in Hampton and graduated with the Hastings High School class of 1957. On August 14, 1965, Wayne was united in marriage to Jeanne Janesich at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton. Over the years, Wayne's passion for coaching allowed him to lead a variety of youth sports and even the Minnesota Vixen Women's Professional Football Team. Outside of his commitment to coaching and announcing the Hastings Hawks games, Wayne was a longtime MNDOT employee and retired in 2000. Wayne was an avid hunter, fisherman, and simply enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed being active in many organizations, especially the Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Board, the Cannon Valley Baseball League where he served as President, and remained active in the Dystonia Foundation in many ways. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steve Erickson; and by his brother-in-law, Tom Driscoll. Wayne is survived by his wife, Jeanne; children, Michael (Ann) Erickson, Troy (Beth) Erickson, and Taina (Harri) Kangastupa; grandchildren, Amy, Logan, and Luke; siblings, Sharon (Richard) Mathews, Donna Driscoll, and Larry (Becky) Erickson; and by many other relatives and friends. Private family memorial services will be held. A Celebration of Wayne's Life will also be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (dystonia-foundation.org). Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
