Walter R. Fontaine

Walter Fontaine, age 67, of Hastings, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 25, 2018. Walter Raymond, was born November 16, 1950 in St. Paul, to Edwin and Ruth (Dwuznik) Fontaine. He grew up in St. Paul, and attended Humboldt High School, graduating in 1969. He then entered the United States Navy in 1969. He served 4 years in the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1973. He went to work for Koch Refinery, now known as Flint Hills, working there for 35 years as a mechanic. On July 1, 1983 he married Donna Rosch in Hastings and they enjoyed nearly 35 years of marriage. Walt retired from Flint Hills and enjoyed woodworking and hunting. Walter is preceded in death by his parents, son Christopher, and brother Edwin. He is survived by his wife Donna, children Troy (Jennifer) Fontaine of VA., Todd (Ying) Fontaine of VA., and Lisa (Doug) Brown of MN; grandchildren Austin Fontaine, Ashley (Devon) Hirsh, Brodie (Janee) Fontaine, Brianna Fontaine, Grant Brown, Kendall Brown, Gracie Poole, Chelsea (Mike) Anderson, Corey Volk, and Kelsey Brown; great grandchildren Ryatt Amundson and Ethan St. Claire; his siblings Dorothy Portz, Teresa Grittner, Everett (Karen) Fontaine, and Helen (Jerome) Colburn. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. David Hennen, will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 5, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 15th St. W., Hastings. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery with full military honors provided by the Hastings VFW Honor Squad. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory, 201 7th St. E., Hastings, and will continue Thursday 1 hour prior to the funeral at the church.
