Virginia “Ginny” Johnston, age 62, of New Trier, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

Ginny was born on June 13, 1963, in Farmington, MN, to John Nicholas Lorentz and Rose Mary Lorentz (Brockman). She attended Hastings High School, graduating in 1981. She went on to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Medication Aide for over thirty years, where her compassion and dedication to others were evident every day. She had a special gift for caring for the elderly, particularly those living with dementia. Over the years, she also provided in-home care for many aging members of her community, forming meaningful connections with those she served.

Ginny loved cheering for the Green Bay Packers, especially when surrounded by a room full of Vikings fans. She had a way with words and could turn even the simplest story into something unforgettable. She loved to bake, but more than that, she loved sharing what she made with others. Her banana bread and holiday cut-out cookies will be remembered by many throughout the community.

While she never had much interest in taking big vacations, Ginny cherished weekend road trips to visit family. She was always on the hunt for a great deal or a hidden treasure at a storage unit auction, often with the intention of passing it along to someone else.

Ginny was preceded in death by her father, John Lorentz, her brother-in-law, George Marthaler, sister-in-law Theresa Lorentz, several aunts, uncles, and cousins, and countless residents that she cared for in their final years. She is survived by her husband Ron, her son Adam, her mother Rose Mary Lorentz, and her siblings, Sr. Mary Lorentz, Steve (Laurie) Lorentz, JoAnn (Paul) Marthaler Faust, Marty (Peggy) Lorentz, Joe (Donna) Lorentz, Kathleen (Dave) Reuter, George Lorentz, and Paul (Judy) Lorentz.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026 at 11:00AM at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in New Trier with a visitation starting at 10:00AM. Private family interment will be in Saint Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Reception will follow the Mass at Trophy House in New Trier. Arrangements are with Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel.
