Virginia Annette Beissel (Wollmering), age 84 of Vermillion, passed away at United Hospital on Tuesday, November 12, 2019. Virginia was born in Vermillion Township, Minnesota on May 28, 1935, the daughter of Theresa (Foss) and Peter Wollmering. She attended St. Boniface Catholic School and graduated from Bethlehem Academy. She met Donald Beissel through one of Virginia's friends and they were married on May 10, 1958. They raised their seven children in Vermillion and attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. At church, she was very involved as a choir member and a Eucharistic Minister. Virginia worked as a bookkeeper at the family farm. When she wasn't working or taking care of her family, she loved to garden and sew. She and Don would host family game night with friends and various celebrations for the kids throughout their lives. Virginia was a stubborn, German, Catholic woman with a strong will. She absolutely loved life and she earned the nickname "Smiley" in her later years. She will be missed by all who knew her. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Theresa and Peter Wollmering; her sister, Ramona Wollmering; her daughter, Linda Beissel; grandson, Alexander Beissel; her daughter-in-law, Deanna Beissel; her parents-in-law, Peter and Josephine Beissel; her brothers-in-law, Peter Beissel, Carl Rice, and Wayne Beard; her godson, Daryl Rice; and nephew, Jeffrey Rice. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Donald "Don" Beissel of Vermillion; her seven children, Duane (Janice) Beissel of Hastings, Floyd (Ray) Beissel of Apple Valley, Kevin (Jeff) Beissel of Prior Lake, Randy (Roxy) Beissel of Hastings, Allen (Teresa) Beissel of Hastings, Karla Green of Hastings, and Donna (Gary) Beissel of Hampton; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her aunt, Loretta Foss of Hastings; and other family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. 106 Main Street West in Vermillion with Fr. Michael Tix officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at church and to a reception in the lower level of the church, immediately following the committal prayers.
