Viola "Vi" E. Schaack

Viola "Vi" Schaack, age 93 of Hastings, died peacefully on Thursday morning, August 10, 2017, at Regina Medical Center in Hastings. Viola Elizabeth was born October 21, 1923 in Dundas, MN to John and Catherine (Fuchs) Zimmerman. She was united in marriage to Michael J. Schaack on September 8, 1943 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Miesville. They were married for 69 years until his death in 2012. Vi was a homemaker and raised 10 children. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael; sons, Richard and Dennis; brothers, Leonard, Gerard and Harold; grandchildren, Lisa Kaminski and David Schaack; a step grandson, Mark Tate; son in law, Marvin "Skip" Hicks; also a brother and sister in infancy. Vi is survived by her children, Barb (Dave) Kaminski, Kenneth Schaack, Patricia (Dale) Sleiter, Margaret Hicks, Ronald (Kathy) Schaack, Gerald (Rosie) Schaack, Steven (Cindy) Schaack, and Janelle (Paul) Tinucci; daughters in law, Rose Schaack and Barb Schaack; also 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren, and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father Michael Barsness officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
