Victoria Helen Grundman, 96, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2020. Victoria was the second of five children, born to Sarah and William Kleve in Adrian, Minn. on June 29, 1923. Victoria grew up on her family’s farm, and moved to Farmington, Minn. where she graduated from high school. After graduation she lived in the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis and worked at the Munsingwear Factory. She recounted many stories of riding the streetcars and shopping in the department stores of downtown Minneapolis with her girlfriends. Victoria met the love of her life, Roger Grundman at the roller-skating rink in Farmington, Minn. They say they fell in love at first sight that night. Soon after, Roger enlisted in the Army, and went to training camp in Louisiana. The two were married on January 29, 1944 when Roger was home on leave for a weekend from training. Roger fought in WWII under General Patton in the European theatre, and he and Victoria wrote letters back and forth during his deployment. Their first son, Roger Jr. was born while Roger Sr. was overseas. Following WWII, Victoria and Roger built their first home together in Farmington, Minn. They dug out the basement with a set of mules and constructed the home in the evening hours after Roger Sr. came home from work. Eventually, they welcomed four more children, Patricia, Peggy, Reid and Polly. Victoria said that becoming a mother was one of the greatest joys of her life. The family moved to Hastings, Minn. in 1967 where they have made their home ever since. Victoria always kept a room for sewing and crafting in her home. She sewed dozens of quilts, stamped hundreds of greeting cards and loved interior decorating and scrapbooking. She was a wonderful baker and always had a jar full of cookies or warm pie to share with visitors. She enjoyed meeting monthly to craft and play cards with her Homemakers Club. In her retirement, Victoria and Roger had the opportunity to travel the world and enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and Roger were married for 70 years. Victoria is survived by her brother, Jerry; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as her five children, Roger Jr. (CJ) Grundman, Patricia Grundman, Peggy Grundman, Reid Grundman, and Polly (Glenn) Bauer; seven grandchildren, Kristine (Mark), Chad (Laura), Aric, Erin, Sarah (Paul), Anna (Travis), and Julia Mary (Patton); 13 great grandchildren, Josh, Mario, Emily, Mason, Samuel, Daisy, Alex, Julia Suzanne, Jace, Nicolaus, David, Henry, Thomas; and three great-great grandchildren, Silas, Aliza and Isabella. She was preceded in death by parents, Sarah and William Kleve; brothers, Harold and Patrick; sister, Virginia; and her beloved husband, Roger. Our memories and your love remain forever in our hearts, Victoria.
