Thomas E. "Tom" Swanson

Thomas "Tom" Swanson, age 77 of Hastings, died peacefully on Tuesday evening, June 9, 2020, at Prescott Nursing and Rehab in Prescott. Thomas Edmund, the son of Gilbert and Sarah (Nilan) Swanson, was born on November 25, 1942, in St. Paul. Tom attended Benilde High School prior to moving to Hastings where he graduated with the class of 1960. Even after graduation, Tom enjoyed playing sports and was a member of the State Championship Teams for Loesch's Bar and Miesville Mudhens. On February 19, 1966, Tom was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Bette" Walker at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Hastings. Tom was a longtime employee of Dakota County Highway Department and retired after thirty-four years of service. Even after retirement, he enjoyed keeping busy by delivering for his niece and nephews Emily's Bakery. Tom was also an avid golfer and enjoyed time spent with the guys at Coffee. He and Bette enjoyed going for walks, taking day trips around the area, and working in the yard. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, Jack. Tom is survived by his loving wife, Bette; sister-in-law, Sharon Swanson; the extended Walker family; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Private family services will be held at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel in Hastings. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Animal Ark of Hastings, or to the donor's choice in memory of Tom.
