Tammi Joy Barnes, 52, Minot and formerly of Hastings, MN died on Thursday, March 17, 2016 in a Minot hospital following a short battle with Ovarian Cancer. Tammi was born on November 2, 1963 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Lyle Steffenson and Gretchen (Fick) Steffenson. She was reared in Hastings, MN; graduated from Hastings High School in 1982 and attended the University of Minnesota and St. Cloud State University. Following her education she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. She served with Supply Squadrons in materials and inventory management at Anderson AFB in Guam, Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota and at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota. Following five years of service, she received her honorable discharge as a Senior Airman having received the Air Force Achievement Medal, Outstanding Unit Award, Good conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Longevity Service Award and Training Ribbon. She had participated in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Tammi married Daniel Barnes on February 25, 1995 in Hastings, MN. They made their home in Minot where both were serving in the U.S. Air Force. Following her honorable discharge she was employed at the Minot Air Force Base Library for fifteen years. Tammi had recently graduated from Minot State University in 2015 with a degree in addiction studies. Presently, she was doing her clinicals. Tammi especially enjoyed reading and music as a member of the percussion sections of the Hastings High School Band and U.S. Air Force Marching Band. Tammi’s loving family includes her husband of 21 years Daniel; sons: Michael and Christopher both at home; mother: Gretchen Steffenson of Hastings, MN; siblings: Edie (Aubrey) Boyer of Minneapolis, “Peanut” (Angela) Hays of Hastings, Troy (Kathy) Steffenson of St. Louis and Tad Steffenson of Bentonville AK; sister-in-law: Kari Steffenson-Watkins of Florence KY; stepmother: Carole Steffenson of St. Paul and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Tammi was preceded in death by her father and brother: Todd. Public Visitation: Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot. Visitation with a Prayer Service following on Monday, March 28, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Wise Funeral Home in Hastings, MN.
