Susan Marie Beissel

Susan “Sue” Beissel, age 56, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born the daughter of Luverne Holtzbauer and Robert Illa on November 16, 1968 in Hastings. Sue grew up in Hastings graduating from Hastings High School, class of 1987. She attended South Tech College for LPN licensing. Sue worked on the night shift as a nurse her entire career at Hastings Senior Health and Living (formerly Augustana). She married Andrew Beissel on October 12, 1996 at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Sue loved reading, cooking new things, finishing New York Times crosswords, planting flowers in her garden, and traveling to Las Vegas to enjoy the casino. She was bashful and soft-spoken with a kind, compassionate heart. You could always hear her cute laugh.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Laverne and Robert; stepfather, Don Welker; brother, Mike Illa; father-in-law, Peter Beissel. She is survived by her husband, Andrew; son, Nate; sister, Lori Severson; brothers, Scott Illa, Mark (Kathy) Illa; mother-in-law, Diane; and many other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 4:00-7:00PM at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel. Private family interment will be in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery.
