Stella M. Schmeichel

Loving mother and grandmother, Stella Marie Schmeichel passed peacefully on September 6, 2012 at the age of 90. She was born September 22, 1921 in Duluth, MN to Charles and Anna (Cormier) Perry. Stella was a graduate of Austin High School and married Albert Schmeichel in June of 1942. They resided in Austin and Blooming Prairie, MN before moving to Hastings in 2000. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 60 years Albert Schmeichel and grandsons Jeff Gerlach and John Schmeichel. Stella is survived by her son Charles Schmeichel (Lisa), and daughters Barbara Freiermuth, Suzanne Gerlach (Gary), Joan Samuelson (John), Jean Schmeichel and Ann Schmeichel (Craig); also six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. The Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. Fifteenth St., Hastings, MN with a visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. The family wishes to express special thanks to her Care Team at Augustana Health Care Center, who so lovingly cared for Stella.
