Shirley J. Hertogs

Shirley J. Hertogs, age 85, of Hastings, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Regina Medical Center in Hastings following an extended illness. Shirley Jean, the daughter of Carl and Ethel (Sunde) Swanson, was born on April 8, 1929 in St. Louis Park. She attended St. Louis Park High School and graduated with the class of 1947. On November 1, 1950, Shirley was united in marriage to Samuel "Sam" Hertogs in Minneapolis. They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States as well as around the world. Sam later preceded her in death on April 17, 2014 after 63 years of marriage. She was a dedicated housewife, and a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Sam; and by her son-in-law Richard "Skip" Ahern Jr. Shirley is survived by her three children, Steven (Jeannie) Hertogs, Scott (Cari) Hertogs, and Susan Hertogs; her six grandchildren; and by many other relatives and friends. Funeral Service, officiated by Gordon Gathright, will be held on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 East 7th Street, in Hastings. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Private family interment will be held at the Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred in memory of Shirley.
