Shirle D. Stevens

Shirle D. Stevens, age 93 of Wilmar and formerly of Hastings, died peacefully at Bethesda Grand of Willmar on Wednesday morning, June 12, 2019. Shirle D., the daughter of Castro and Thursa (Kolb) Brechwald, was born on July 14, 1925, in Holstein, Iowa. Following her graduation from Holstein High School, Shirle continued her education at Denver University where she obtained an Associates Degree in Education, and began her career teaching clerical skills and coaching women's basketball in high schools throughout Nebraska. On June 20, 1948, she was united in marriage to Wayne Stevens at Holstein Methodist Church, and after later moving to Hastings, Shirle was a receptionist and bailiff at the Dakota County Court House. Shirle enjoyed volunteering at Regina Medical Center, Hastings' elementary schools, Resurrection United Methodist church, Hastings Country Club, local prison and at the Dakota County Library. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her husband, Wayne. Shirle is survived by her loving children, Jody (Rick) Loseth, George (Madelyne) Stevens, Laurie Stevens, Amy (Chris) Gerding, and Thomas Stevens; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and by many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2019, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel in Hastings, with Gordon Gathright officiating. Private family interment will take place at a later date. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., and also to a reception immediately following the service, all at the funeral home on Saturday. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
