Scott David Welter: January 23, 1964 – April 2, 2026

A celebration of life service will be held at Hosanna Church (Lakeville Campus) April 8 for Scott David Welter who passed in the early hours of April 2, 2026, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester after a courageous battle with cancer. Scott peacefully made the final journey, as his wife of nearly 35 years, Andrea Joy (Swanson) Welter, stood by his side and held his hand.

Scott loved to spend time with his family, to travel, and to cheer on the Minnesota Twins and follow a range of sports teams. He was a loving father and a man of faith.

Born January 23, 1964, Scott enjoyed growing up and playing little league baseball in Apple Valley, where he also went on to graduate from high school. Scott worked in accounts at MoneyGram in Saint Louis Park for more than three decades and almost never missed a single day of work. He had a knack for numbers and could make mental mathematical calculations with ease.

Scott’s passion for baseball and sports remained steadfast throughout his life. While he might not have landed on the roster of the New York Yankees like he dreamed about as a boy, he did play softball for 25 years and formed many lifelong friendships on fields across the Twin Cities. Scott’s nickname, “Ozzy,” stemmed not only from his admiration for Ozzy Osborne and heavy metal music but also for the “mega hair” he once rocked in the 1980s that might have even put Jon Bon Jovi to shame.

Over the years, Scott made pilgrimages to every single Major League Baseball stadium in the U.S. and Canada, with friends and family joining him. He reveled in a range of travels: camping trips to state parks; family vacations to Wisconsin Dells and Disney World; weekend getaways to see rock concerts; and, since 2014, annual voyages to Puerto Vallarta. He attended hundreds of Twins games over the years and always stayed until the final out.

In some of his last moments, Scott expressed his deep love for his wife, sons, and family, and said he was ready to go toward the light where God wants him to be.

The visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Hosanna Church (Lakeville Campus), followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. A light lunch and refreshments will also be served thereafter. Feel free to wear Twins attire to honor Scott!

Scott is preceded in death by his mother, Sharon “Shari” Welter; grandparents, Ray and Alma Hoff; and grandma, Dolores Welter.

He is survived by his wife, Andrea; his three sons, Matthew, Shane, and Nathan; three grandsons; his father, Gerald “Jerry”; his sister, Dawn; and his niece, many nephews, in-laws, and other relatives.
