Scott Lorne Pengelly of Hastings, MN passed away unexpectedly while on vacation with his family on December 29th.. As a skilled and proficient editor throughout his life and a lover of grammar, his family wishes that he could be here to write this himself. Where do the commas and semi-colons go Scott? Scott was born on October 16th, 1947 to Ann and Wilburn Pengelly in Fargo, ND. He graduated from Robbinsdale High School and still holds the school track team record in the mile. Scott attended the University of Minnesota before being drafted into the Marine Corps in 1969. After being discharged Scott had a long career in journalism and spent most of it working in communications for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Scott was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who always put others first. Scott loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed spending time at his family’s cabin. After 43 years of marriage Scott was still head over heels for his wife and extremely proud of his children. Scott will be truly missed but never forgotten. Scott was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children, Evan (Angela) Pengelly of Maple Grove, MN, Laura (Brian) Williams of Land O Lakes, FL; siblings, Fran Augustine, Georgia Trenary and Kirk Pengelly; grandsons, Owen, Anders, Lucas and Liam; and many other nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Doug Duin, will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday (1/4) at Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 W. 9th St., Hastings. A gathering will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. The Wise Family Funeral Home is serving the family.
