Sandra Jean Schommer

Sandra J. Schommer, age 83, of Hastings, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

Sandra was born on September 12, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to William and Edna (Eagles). She grew up in Minneapolis alongside her siblings Joanne, Ronald, Linda, and Kay, and graduated from South High School with the Class of 1960.

Sandra was first blessed with two children, Scott and Terri. Later, while working as a waitress at the Officer’s Club, she met Bob Schommer, who was a bartender there. Sandra and Bob were married on February 13, 1971. Together they welcomed their daughter, JoAnne, and through their marriage Sandra also became a mother to Bob’s children, Shawn, Mike, and Paul.

Sandra devoted much of her life to caring for others. She became a CNA and worked for many years at Haven Homes, now known as Augustana. She later continued her calling through home health care, faithfully serving families until the age of 75, when she finally retired.

Family was always at the center of Sandra’s life. She loved to read, play cards, especially Yahtzee, and she cherished time spent with her family. Holidays were her favorite, and she took great joy in decorating, having people over, and being together.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Bob Schommer; children, Scott Wood, Shawn (Ray) Fox, Terri Wood, Paul (Julie) Schommer, JoAnne Schommer; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; brother, Ronald; sisters, Linda and Kay; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edna; her sister, Joanne; son, Mike; and her grandson, Justin.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2026 at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, Hastings with a visitation from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Cemetery, Hastings.
