Rosemary Fitzgerald Marthaler

Rosemary Fitzgerald Marthaler, age 92 of Rosemount, died peacefully on Wednesday morning, August 23, 2017, at United Hospital in St. Paul following a brief illness. Rosemary, the daughter of Clement and Bertha (Porter) Fitzgerald, was born on April 14, 1925, in Kansas City, Missouri. Rosemary married George H. Marthaler, August 10, 1946 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in South St. Paul. They were married for 52 years and raised 10 children. George died January 1, 1999. Rosemary was a travel agent for a number of years. She was a woman of strong faith who dearly loved her family and was especially close to her grandchildren who she never failed to mention to waitresses and anyone else she encountered. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George H. Marthaler; her daughter, Kathleen Peine; her son, George J. Marthaler; her brothers, Donald Fitzgerald and Robert Fitzgerald; her son-in-law, Kevin Dodge; granddaughter, Lisa Marthaler; great granddaughters, Sydney Wagner and Scarlet Wagner. Rosemary is survived by her children, Dennis (Marilyn) Marthaler, Rosemary (Chuck) Dougherty, Janet (Larry) Grosse, Nancy Dodge, Debra Marthaler, Pamela (John) Wagner, Mary (Roy) Schneider, and James (Yvette) Marthaler; her son-in-law, Jerry Peine, daughter-in-law, JoAnn Marthaler; her 25 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; her sister Shirley Blake; her brother, Fr. William Fitzgerald; sisters-in-law, Doris Fitzgerald, Joan Marthaler and Gayle Marthaler; her brother-in-law, Jack (Polly) Spott; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 28, 2017, at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Coates; 3700 160th Street East, Rosemount, with Father Richard Mahoney and Father William Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. followed by a 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Spiritual Rosary Prayer Service, and visitation again from 6:15 to 7 p.m. all held at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings. Visitation will continue from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday at the church.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
