Ronald R. Thurmes

Ronald R. Thurmes, age 71, of Hastings, died Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Ronald Richard was born December 23, 1944 in Hastings to Henry and Mary (Frost) Thurmes. A 1962 graduate of Hastings High School, he was a 40-year employee of 3M prior to retirement. Ron married Brenda Norton on November 3, 2007 in Hastings. He was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry and brother, Tony. Ron is survived by his wife, Brenda; three sons, Joe (Katie) of Somerset, WI, Allan and Ben (Beth), both of Hastings; five grandchildren, B.J., Andrew, Hannah, Renae and Julia; mother, Mary Thurmes; four siblings, Jim (Mary Ann), Raymond (Denise), Peggy (Jeff) Rother and Dennis (Christie); also other family members and friends. A visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2016, at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services, 201 East 7th Street, Hastings. Interment will occur later at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery in Hastings.
