Roger S. McCloud, age 89 of Vermillion, died Wednesday morning, February 22, 2017, at his beloved stable in Vermillion. Roger S., one of eleven children of James and Mae (Horton) McCloud, was born on October 18, 1927, in Amboy Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota. At a young age, Roger moved to South St. Paul and later to Inver Grove Heights and worked for Armour Company while training horses. In 1972, he moved to Hastings and continued developing his passion of training, showing, and breeding horses. Throughout the years, Roger has won many distinguished awards and has created a legacy in the horse industry for the quality of their horses. On January 24, 2002, he was united in marriage to June Shuck in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, they continued to be actively involved with horses while they owned and operated McCloud Stables in Vermillion. Their successful accomplishments earned a great reputation and awarded them with National recognition in many ways. He was preceded in death by his parents and by several siblings. Roger is survived by his wife, June; several siblings; his mother-in-law, Louisa Shuck; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services in Hastings. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorials preferred to the donors charity of choice. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
