Roger A. Youngquist, age 92, of Hastings, passed away May 24, 2020. Roger Andrew Youngquist was born to a loving father, mother, and sister and raised on the east side of St. Paul. He graduated from Johnson High School and began studying at Rasmussen College but was called away to serve in the United States Army. He was stationed in Alaska and played trumpet in the company band. After completing his duty he returned and finished school before beginning work at Minnesota Federal Savings and Loan. He continued working for Minnesota Federal for 36 years, working his way from teller to Assistant Vice President. It was there he met a beautiful teller named Enola Jane who would become his wife of 65 years. They were married in October of 1954 at First Lutheran Church in St. Paul and shortly after began their family with the births of their first son and daughter. Roger was soon transferred to open the Hastings branch of Minnesota Federal. Upon moving to Hastings, Roger and Jane bought a house on Pine Street where they would continue to live for the next 55 years. There they had a second daughter and surround themselves with loving neighbors who would become close friends. Roger became a well known and loved member of the Hastings community. He was a member of the community band, the Kiwanis Club, the Hastings Jaycees, the Masons, was Chairman of the United Way Campaign Fund Drive, a member of the Dakota County Board of Realtors, a member of the Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce and a dedicated member and regular usher at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. He played golf well into his 80s with his pals at the Clifton Highlands (though his famous hole-in-one was at Bellwood Oaks). He became a funny, patient, and beloved grandfather to 10 and great-grandfather to 9. He treasured the countless hours he spent giving them rides in the pickle bucket, playing croquet in the backyard, watching their shows and attending their school and sporting events. He will be fondly remembered for much, but especially for his kindness, his patience, and his wit by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Majorie Peterson. Roger is survived by his wife, Jane; son, David (Colleen) Youngquist; daughters, Linda (Henry) Endres; and Kathy (Scott) Fuchs; grandchildren, Jason (Jamie) Youngquist, Alyssa Youngquist, Callie (Glenn) Petersen; Marty (Nicole) Endres, Laura Endres, Dan (Ashley) Endres; Katie Fuchs (Jarod Traynor); Joshua (Miranda) Fuchs, Kirsten Fuchs, Jacob Fuchs (Haley Mead); great grandchildren, McKenna, Luke, Leo, Lottie, Addy, Samson; Evan, Casey, and Jay; other relatives and friends.
