Robert William Smythe

Robert William Smythe, Beloved Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather Age 93, of Cottage Grove, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family February 25, 2022. He was born and raised in South St. Paul, the youngest of 7 children. He joined the Navy at 17 and served for over 8 years. Married and raised a family in Cottage Grove. Retired as a millwright from Armour & Co. He enjoyed the outdoors whether spending time with family and friends at the cabin in northern MN or deer hunting. He will be dearly missed. Preceded in death by loving Wife, Marlys of 53 years. Survived by his brother, Walter Smythe; children; Bruce (Liz Ann) Smythe, Corinne Baker, Craig (Diane) Smythe, Gail (Colin) Leitch and Alan (Heather) Smythe, 11 grandchildren; Adam (Hannah) Peck, Chelsea (Nicholas) Andreasen, Christian (Ali) Salihi, Brad Smythe, Leah (Erik Brunn) Baker, Carley (Adam) Bowe, Rob Smythe, Kurt Smythe, Alex Leitch, Sean Smythe, Amanda Smythe and 5 great grandchildren; Eva, Davin, Reese, Evie, Ezra and another on the way. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, 4/3 from 2-5 at the American Legion, 328 Broadway Ave, St Paul Park, MN 55071. Private family interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the donor’s choice.
