Robert Q. Mattila

Robert Q. Mattila, age 83 of Hastings passed away with his children by his side on November 3, 2010 at his residence. Robert was born September 5, 1927 in Sebeka, MN to William and Esther (Hepola) Mattila. He served in the U.S. Navy post WWII and married Ellen Luoma on September 12, 1947 in Sebeka. He was a retired 3-M employee and former co-owner of the Gift Tree in Hastings with his wife, who preceded him in death in 2005. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife; great-grandchild Isabel Cox and grandson-in-law Jeremy Cox; 3 brothers John, Edward, and David. Survivors include his daughter Linda (Benjamin) Lind of Houston, MN; sons Darrel Mattila of Hastings, Stanley (Beth) Mattila of Martinville, IN, and Steven (Jean) Mattila of Hastings; also 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret Luckow of Andover, MN, Mary Ellen Luckow of Fridley, Marlene Stoehr of Shoreview, and Kayo Kirchhoff of Kenyon, MN. The visitation for Robert Mattila will be held from 5-8pm Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 East Seventh St., Hastings and also one hour prior to the service at the church. The Funeral Service, officiated by Rev. Percy J. Damrow will be held 11am Saturday, November 6, 2010 at St. John�s Ev. Lutheran Church, 202 West Eighth St., Hastings. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
