Hastings Chapel

Robert John Porvaznik, age 75, of Hastings, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at his home on August 30, 2025.

Robert was born on May 12, 1950, in Hammond, Indiana, to John and Lillian (Palguta) Porvaznik. He grew up in Indiana as one of ten children, with eight brothers and one sister. His family moved to Hastings in the early sixties, where he graduated from Hastings High School in 1968. At the age of 16, Robert was recognized and awarded multiple times by the Fisher Body Craftsman’s Guild for automotive design and styling—an accomplishment he remained proud of throughout his life.

In 1970, Robert was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Germany. A man of many talents and endless curiosity, Robert was an amateur astronomer who built his own telescope, a musician who played the drums, and a craftsman who built his own audio equipment, hang glider, and more. He was always creating, always learning, and always a step ahead.

Robert married Sandy Dankers in 1984, and together they raised two children, Derik and Shanna. He loved camping with his family, biking, ice skating, and exploring fairs and festivals—especially the Minnesota State Fair. Robert was naturally outgoing and loved socializing with people wherever he went. He was known for his intelligence, boundless energy, and childlike enthusiasm. Above all, Robert was a devoted father, a good provider, and a man who cherished life to its fullest.

We would like to offer a special thanks to Derik, his cherished son, whose selfless devotion made it possible for Robert to remain in the comfort of his own home during his struggles with illness.

He is survived by his children, Derik Porvaznik and Shanna Porvaznik; his siblings, Paul, Martin (Colleen), Joseph (Michelle), Peter (Liesl), Mark, Vincent (Susan) Kamil, Steve (Jill), Phillip (Catherine), and Mary (David) Siebenaler; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Lorna Porvaznik.

A graveside service will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 1:30PM at Assembly Lane 6. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the service.
