It is with great sadness that we announce Robert J. McNamara, age 31 of Hastings, a decorated Army Veteran, lost his battle with PTSD on Tuesday evening, January 21, 2020. Robert John, the son of Gary T. and JoAnn (Shaleen) McNamara, was born on June 25, 1988, in Hastings. Following his graduation from Hastings High School, Robert continued his education at Inver Hills Community College. On April 29, 2004, Robert enlisted in the United States Army and retired as a decorated E4 Afghanistan Soldier on January 6, 2014. Robert’s family resided in Farmington where he was a network administrator for DJM Marketing Solutions. Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved spending time in the great outdoors. Most of all, Robert loved his children, Mollie and Hunter, and cherished the time spent with his family. Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and E. JoAnn McNamara, Gordy and Lois Shaleen, and Marian (Schmotter) Heider. He is survived by his parents, Gary T. and JoAnn M. McNamara; siblings, Jackie (Jason) Paulus, Staci (Jeff) Greenlee, Jacob (Missy) Schmotter, and Catherine McNamara; significant other, Brittany Woodbeck; children Mollie and Hunter; nephew and nieces, Joel, Lily, Kylie, Kenzie, and Bee; two labs, Beau and Jake; and by many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held also at the funeral home. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, and also for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, all at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings. In Celebrating Robert's Life, feel free to wear your favorite camo clothing. In lieu of flowers, Robert's family kindly requests memorials be made to the Robert McNamara Memorial Fund at Vermillion State Bank.
