Robert Eugene O'Brien Jr.

Robert Eugene O'Brien, Jr. age 56 of Mitchellsville, IL, formerly of Hastings, Minnesota, passed away Monday, October 19, 2015 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born on June 22, 1959 in Centreville, IL to Robert O'Brien, Sr. and the late Corinne O'Brien (nee Burton). On July 31, 2015 he married Elizabeth Marie Carver of Mitchellsville, IL and she survives. From a small child, Bob enjoyed many outdoor activities including hunting and fishing and he enjoyed that throughout his life. Bob received his Bachelor's Degree from Texas Christian University. He was also a graduate of General Motors University of Marketing and Management. Bob was a certified rescue scuba diver and was a certified scuba diver trainer. His love for scuba diving took him and his family all over the world.Robert is survived by his wife, Betsy O'Brien of Mitchellsville, IL; son, Robert T. O'Brien (fianc Jenna Gerhardt) of Austin, TX; daughter, Brittney (Dan) McDonough of Woodbury, MN; father, Robert (Dianne) O'Brien, Sr. of Belleville, IL; two brothers, Michael (Becky) O'Brien of Eldorado, IL and Bradley (Frith) O'Brien of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; step-brother, Chad Gildig of Denver, CO; former wife and mother of his children, Lori O'Brien; and also by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.He was preceded in death by his mother. Robert's son, Mitchell R. O'Brien also preceded him on June 4, 2003.Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Rose of Sharon Lutheran Church, 6875 Jamaica Ave., Cottage Grove, with Reverend Martin Schoenfeld officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Interment will be held at Cottage Grove Cemetery. A visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Harrisburg, Illinois.Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services in Hastings.
