Richard R. Berens, age 84, a former Hastings jeweler, died May 4, 2010 in Leesburg, FL.Richard was born September 22, 1925 in Minneapolis to Roman and Ethel (Lawson) Berens. He married JoAnn Borgerding on May 6, 1950 in Minneapolis. Richard was a WWII Navy veteran, a member of the VFW in both Hastings and Leesburg,a member of the Hastings Am. Legion, and enjoyed both golf and bowling. He owned and operated Berens Jewelry in Hastings for many years. After his retirement, he moved to Leesburg, FL in 1991. He married Janet Brown on September 23, 1994 in Florida. Richard was preceded in death by his first wife JoAnn, brother Jack Berens, and sister Jean Curtin. He is survived by his wife of 16 years Janet; children, Vickie Apel of Mankato, Marikay (Mike) Wolf of Minneapolis, Kurt of Minneapolis, James (Joyce) of Phoenix, AZ, Tony (Korrinne) of Hastings, David (Norma) of Hastings, Joany (Marty) Peterson of River Falls, WI, Katie Roth of Minneapolis, and Maggie (Kelly) Cedotal of Faribault; also 13 grandchildren. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Allan Paul Eilenwill beheld at 10AMMonday, May 10, 2010 atSt. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth St., Hastings.Thevisitation will be from 4-8PM Sunday, May 9, 2010 at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 East Seventh St., Hastings, and one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post #1210. The pallbearerswill be Brian Apel, Jeff Apel,Tom Wolf, Jerry Berens,Jake Berens, Mike Schommer.
