Reverend Kenneth Benson passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, at The Meadows Senior Living.
Kenneth was born in Antigo, Wisconsin to Theodore and Lucille Benson. He grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he attended and graduated from Minneapolis South High School with the Class of 1957. Shortly after graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1959 and later continued his service in the Naval Reserves.
On May 9, 1964, Kenneth married the love of his life, Ruth Lois Martin, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Together they shared nearly 62 wonderful years of marriage filled with faith, family, and service.
Kenneth began his professional career in the energy industry, working for Northern States Power for 13 years and later for Dakota Electric for another 13 years. While he valued that work, his greatest and most fulfilling calling came when he entered pastoral ministry. In 1977, he became the head pastor of a church in Bloomington, Minnesota that over the years was known as Christian Life, Eagle Heights, and finally Stonebridge Church in Burnsville, Minnesota. Kenneth faithfully served the congregation and community there for many years, ministering with compassion, wisdom, and joy.
His faith and dedication to ministry also extended beyond the local church. Kenneth was involved with the International Ministerial Association beginning in 1975 and served in various leadership roles throughout his years of involvement. Missionary work and supporting ministry efforts around the world were especially important to him.
Kenneth was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who truly loved life and people. He was known for his warm smile, uplifting spirit, and genuine compassion for others. A wonderful pastor and friend to many, he was selfless, encouraging, and always ready to offer support and kindness.
Outside of ministry, Kenneth enjoyed many interests. He was a fan of NASCAR, proudly owned a Mustang, and faithfully cheered for the Minnesota Vikings. He also loved reading and studying theology and especially treasured time spent with his family, embracing his role as a proud and devoted grandpa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Lucille Benson; and siblings, Gerald Benson, Richard (Marion) Benson, and Arlene Kuss.
Kenneth is lovingly survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Ruth Benson; son, Dan (Katherine) Benson; grandson, Pierce Benson; nephew, Nathan Farley; sister-in-law, Delores; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Stonebridge Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Stonebridge Church in Burnsville, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place at Acacia Park Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are with Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel.
