Randy will be remembered for his love of family, his many friendships, and the simple things that brought him joy. He especially enjoyed sports, all things pheasants and had a lifelong love of music. He played baseball in high school and college and treasured watching and talking sports with his sons, tailgating with family and friends, and cheering on the New York Yankees. He took great pleasure in sharing his interests with others, and they often became a shared joy among family and friends. He also loved traveling and vacationing, whether camping, visiting friends, relaxing at the beach, or exploring cities and taking in the sites, always happiest when those experiences were shared with the people he loved.

Randy’s greatest personal joy was being a dad to Rick and Kevin and the best husband to Kristi, cherishing every moment with his family. His greatest professional accomplishment was establishing Senior Olympics in the state of South Dakota in 1986 which continues to this day.

Randy was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota and at age four moved to Watertown where he formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. He attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, later lived in Pierre while working for state government. Randy and Kristi were married in Pierre in 1985 and they eventually made their home in Apple Valley where they’ve resided for the past 38 years.

At age 72, he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 16, 2026.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Shirley & Kenny; and brother, Jack. He is survived by his wife of 40 years with whom he built a life full of love and family, Kristi; sons, Rick (Elisa) and Kevin (Anna Saurer); siblings, Mick (Gwen), Julie (Dan) Larson, and Lynn (Gil) Smith; sister-in-law, Jane; uncle, Jim (Dawn); loyal dog Penny; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Randy will be remembered for his love of family, loyalty to friends, and the many ways he brought people together….this will be part of his lasting legacy.

Celebration of a Beautiful Life will be held at Cowboy Jacks in Apple Valley at 11am on Friday, April 24, 2026. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
