Randy John Peterson, 76, of Minneapolis, MN passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 12 at home due to natural causes.
Randy was born in Minneapolis to Ordell and Shirley Peterson on Mar. 3, 1950. He graduated from Edina High School in 1968. He went on to earn a B.A. in Anthropology-Archaeology from St. Cloud State University and did his graduate work at Michigan State University in East Lansing. His career in archaeology took him to Barrow, Alaska for several summers and included work ahead of the trans-Alaska pipeline. He met the love of his life, Sandy, while working for the Minnesota Historical Society at the History Museum. He also worked at historic Fort Snelling. His career ended with his retirement from Braun Intertec.
While at Braun, a major project that he was particularly proud of was preparing the area and soil foundation surrounding the new St Paul Saints stadium. After it was completed, he and wife Sandy attended many Saints games each year as season ticket holders – one of his greatest joys.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sandy Peterson (Terzick), and brother-in-law Robert Terzick.
Randy is survived by his sister Marci Olson (Jim), nephew Andrew Olson (Emma), niece Erika Olson, and brother-in-law Rick Terzick, as well as the five Peterson cousins and their families. Special neighbor friends Jim & Carol Mulligan and Bill Burleson & Mariann Bentz will also help keep Randy’s memory alive.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 23rd at Starkson Anderson Chapel, 14850 Garrett Ave., Apple Valley, MN 55124. Visitation at 10 a.m., service at 11 a.m., with lunch and fellowship to follow at noon.
Memorials can be made to N.C Little Hospice in Edina, MN.
