Randall E. Overstreet

Randall E. Overstreet, age 89 of Hastings, died peacefully on Monday evening, December 4, 2017, at Augustana Care Center of Hastings, following a recent stroke. Randall Eugene, the son of Omer and Ina (Miller) Overstreet, was born on January 11, 1928, near Spickard, Missouri. Following his education, Randall enlisted in the Merchant Marines where he served for one year before being discharged. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served multiple tours around the world before being honorably discharged after a total of nine years. On July 4, 1951, Randall was united in marriage to Donna Cornett at the First Christian Church in Bedford, Iowa. They enjoyed many years together, and were blessed with three children, Richard, William, and Karen. Donna later proceeded in him in death on September 29, 2015. As a child, Randall enjoyed squirrel and rabbit hunting, and being outdoors. Most recently, he especially enjoyed taking walks along the Mississippi to watch the eagles, Sandhill cranes, and pelicans. Randall was a very spiritual and people person, and enjoyed hearing what was going on around the world. He was a longtime member of Resurrection United Methodist Church in Hastings and participated in many volunteer opportunities throughout church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Overstreet; his grandson, Eric Bauer; his great grandchildren, Brandon Hamilton and Santos Hamilton; his daughter, Karen Norton; and by his wife, Donna. Randall is survived by his children, Richard Overstreet of Hastings, and William (Terrie) Overstreet of Carolton, Texas; his grandchildren, Jennifer Auchampach of Prescott, WI, Brenda Thurmes of Hastings, Donna (Erich) Och of Oakdale, Brian (Hanh) Hamilton of Shakopee, Brent (Laura) Hamilton of Oakdale, Dr. Amanda (Stephen) Fredeyen, Paul (Chelsea) Overstreet and Daniel Overstreet, all of Dallas, TX; his thirteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; his siblings, Sydney Overstreet, Evadene Hudson, and Ruth Payne; his sister-in-law, Sharon Spam; his brother-in-law, Sam Smith; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 11, 2017, at Resurrection United Methodist Church in Hastings, with Gordon Gathright officiating. Visitation will be held at church for one hour prior to the service on Monday morning. Interment with Military Honors provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post 1210 will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hastings Family Service, Resurrection United Methodist Church, or to the donors choice in memory of Randall. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
