Ralph Schweich

Ralph Schweich, age 87, of Hastings, died peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Regina Medical Center following an extended illness. Ralph Michael, the son of Peter and Susan (Gergen) Schweich, was born on October 19, 1927 in Douglas Township, Dakota County. On October 26, 1949, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary "Katy" Serres. They enjoyed many years of dancing and playing cards as well as raising their family prior to her passing on April 12, 2010. Ralph was a lifelong farmer in the New Trier area and enjoyed being the longtime Clerk of the Douglas Township Board. Ralph was also a lifetime member of the St. Marys Catholic Church and St. Nicolas Society, as well as a member of the Miesville Lions Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Katy; and by his siblings, Jeannette, Roman, Gerald, Sister Ramona, Monica and Gervais. Ralph is survived by his children, David (Sandy) Schweich of Miesville, Stephen (Yong Ae) Schweich of Tacoma, WA, Ann (Keith) Gesme of Cannon Falls, Mary Schweich of Inver Grove Heights, Joseph (Vickie) Schweich of New Trier, Kathleen (Luis) Lopez of Maplewood, and Pam (Nick) Peine of New Trier; his 12 grandchildren 7 great grandchildren as well as two more on the way; and by many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at St. Marys Catholic Church in New Trier, with Father Stan Mader officiating. Interment will be held in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Caturia Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services, 201 E. Seventh St., Hastings, and for one hour prior to services on Tuesday morning.
