Peggy Illa, age 87 of Hastings, died peacefully on Wednesday morning, January 6, 2021, at Norris Square in Cottage Grove. Peggy Lou, the daughter of James and Katherine (Rosen) Estes, was born on August 12, 1933, in Hastings. Following her graduation from Hasting High School, Peggy was united in marriage to Raymond "Bud" Illa on July 14, 1951. Peggy was a longtime employee at Smead Mfg. in Hastings, and retired after forty years of employment. She enjoyed crocheting, working with ceramics, and spending time camping and fishing up north. One of her bigger accomplishments throughout her life was getting her drivers license when she was 59. Peggy enjoyed any opportunity she had to visit the casino. Most of all, Peggy loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. For the last six years, Peggy has truly loved living at Oak Ridge where she gained many close friendships along the way. Her very kind, giving, and loving personality will forever be remembered. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Carrie Illa; stepfather, Karl Bretschneider; three brothers and three sisters; and by her daughter-law, Carol Illa. Peggy is survived by her children, Katherine (Kevin) Karnick, Dennis (Sue) Illa, and Charlotte (Gary) Brown; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends at Oak Ridge. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings, with Paris Pasch officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at the funeral home.
