We are saddened by the sudden loss of our beloved daughter, Nicole Marie Rust. She went to be with the Lord on November 28, 2025, at Southdale Hospital, due to a pulmonary embolism.
She was born December 22, 1984 in Hutchinson, MN. Baptized and confirmed in faith at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Her growing up years were shared with her older brother, buddy Nathan, whom they were companions in many neighborhood sports and activities. Her time also was filled with interests in swimming, music, and animals. She also did volunteer work at the local library, domestic violence center, and candy striper duties at local hospital.
Nicole’s percussion ability led her to involvement in the high school marching band, drumline club and orchestra. Later years Nicole continued to tutor young percussionists, and was involved with the Hopkins Community Band, continuing also with volunteer work at Redeemer Nursing Home.
Her interest in serving others led her to VEAP Food Pantry in Bloomington, where she was employed for 17 plus years as a Program Support Coordinator. Her profession involved working with many volunteers whom she valued, respected, and considered as friends. The service they provided was a blessing to the community. Her focus and ability to compassionately help others was not for the purpose of a thank you, but a heartfelt desire and ability she had to help others have a better life.
Nicole cherished time with family, setting a priority to attend family events and functions. She enjoyed many road trips with her parents, and delighted in the opportunity to become a valued Aunt, participating greatly in her Niece Evelyn’s growing up years. From babysitting, imaginary story telling, creative projects, and fun play, often times including Nana Joyce.
Nicole is survived by her parents, Mark and Joyce Rust; brother, Nathan Rust and his wife, Emily and their daughter, Evelyn - age 13; and by many aunts, uncles and cousins, whom valued her easy going humor, intelligent wit, and always gentle, welcoming conversation. Blessed be her memory.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Hastings with a visitation one hour prior. A dessert reception will follow. Interment will be held later in the year.
