Nicholas P. Maras

Nicholas Peter �Nick� Maras, age 98, formerly of Hibbing, died Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Hastings, MN where he had been a resident for the last 8 years. Nick was born December 1, 1914 in Bedford, Indiana to Marco and Rose (Nagalich) Maras. He moved to Hibbing with his family at the age of 2 years. He attended school at Hibbing and was a 42 year employee at the U.S. Steel mines as a heavy equipment mechanic retiring in 1976. He married Santina (Romani) April 8, 1938 in Hibbing. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Robert, John and George and a sister Mary. He is survived by his wife Santina of Hastings, MN, a son Nick J. (Anna Marie) Maras of Elk River, MN, a daughter Patti (Dave) Kujala of Hastings, 6 grandchildren Michele, Nick H., Michael, Susan, Brianna and Jordan; 12 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren; 3 sisters Ann Kelly, Katherine Pahule and Lucille Crnkovich all of Hibbing. The Memorial Mass, officiated by Fr. Gabriel Waweru will be held 12 Noon Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1924 Fifth Avenue East, Hibbing, MN 55746, witha memorial gathering held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing.
