Naomi "Oma" Therres, age 76 of Vermillion, died suddenly on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at her home. Naomi Ann, the daughter of Louis and Alice (Vick) Vetter, was born on June 15, 1940, in Buena Vista Township, Iowa. Following her education at Calamus High School, Naomi attended Iowa State College where she enjoyed singing in the choir and later graduated in 1964. After meeting her future husband, Joseph C. Therres, on the Delta Queen Steamboat, they later married on August 26, 1972, in Des Moines, Iowa. They were blessed with one daughter, Maria, prior to his sudden passing on January 7, 1977. Naomi was a life-long caretaker. As a Christian, she always put the needs of others before hers. She enjoyed being raised on a farm as well as being married to a farmer. From a very young age and up to very recently, Oma never missed the opportunity to travel. She also loved baseball and was a dedicated Twins fan! She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; her brother, August; and by her sisters, Alice (in infancy) and Louise Vetter. Naomi is survived by her daughter, Maria of Vermillion; her niece and nephews, Carmen (Michael) Wycoff of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Paul (Jane) Vetter of Lakeville, MN, and Eric Vetter of De Witt, Iowa; her great nieces, Lyndsey and Kaitlyn Wycoff and Christine, Brianna and Skylar Vetter; her extended family, Angelin and Todd Petit and family, Connor, Helen, Isabelle, David, Andrew and James; her special friends, Virginia and Charles Stemig and Emma Siebenaler; and by many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at St. Johns Lutheran Church Rich Valley, 14385 Blaine Ave. East., in Rosemount, with Reverend Christopher Horton officiating. Interment will be held at St. John the Baptist Parish Cemetery in Vermillion. Visitation will be held 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2016, at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services, 201 East Seventh Street in Hastings, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Johns Lutheran Church Rich Valley, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and School in Vermillion, or the Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute.
