Myron Milbrandt

Myron L. Milbrandt, 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2026. Myron was born in Fairmont, MN on November 15, 1932 to Harold and Julia (Prafke) Milbrandt. He grew up in Fairmont and was a graduate of Fairmont High School, where he excelled in sports. Baseball was his favorite but also enjoyed football and basketball.

In January of 1953 he joined the Army and headed to Fort Riley in Kansas. When out of the Army he moved back home and attended Mankato State, receiving his Master's degree in Elementary Education and Administration.

His first job was a sixth grade teacher at Cooper Elementary in Hastings. He later became principal at Cooper and spent 30 years before retiring. Also when a sixth grade teacher, he met the love of his life, Lois Wellberg. They married and had one child, Wendy Milbrandt. After retiring from School District #200 he started working as a Bailiff at the Dakota County Government Center where he worked for the next 27 years.

Myron was always active in the community volunteering many places including Food & Fishes. He also assisted with the Hastings Community Concert Association for many years. His favorite was playing in the men's volleyball league and softball league for well over 30 years. He enjoyed collecting stamps, coins and antique tools. Every Wednesday you would find him at Treasure Island playing Jacks or Better. Playing cards, cribbage and games was a favorite past time always keeping track of the wins. He also enjoyed traveling, reading, jigsaw and sudoko puzzles. He was an avid Twins and Vikings fan as well as attending U of M women's basketball games. He was also still riding his bike around Hastings last summer.

Myron is preceded in death by Lois Milbrandt, his wife of 51 years. Myron is survived by his only daughter Wendy (Terrance) and two granddaughters Marina and Kyla Smith.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at 2:00pm at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel with visitation starting one hour prior to the service and reception to follow the service. Arrangements are with Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel.
