Merlin Fasbender, age80 of Hastings died January 7, 2013. Merlin was born August 12, 1932 in Pierce Co, WI to Leo and Frances (Rock) Fasbender. He attended catholic school at St. Mary�s � Big River in River Falls, WI. In his first year of high school, Merlin went to St. John�s Collegeville. He later attended Prescott High School, Prescott, WI and graduated in 1950. Merlin farmed with his dad until he went in the Army in October of 1953. He served two years prior to his father becoming ill. He then came home to take over the family farm and attended Ag. school for two years after his military service. Merlin married Helen Kirchner on October 5, 1957 and they had three children, Timothy, Thomas and Lisa. Merlin quit farming in 1986 and went to work as security at Northern States Power Company for two years. He then worked in maintenance at Walmart for fifteen years until retiring. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Timothy; sisters Virginia Schommer, June Kordosky, Rose Marie Young and Audrey Fasbender. Merlin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen; children Lisa Fasbender of Forest Lake, MN, Thomas Fasbender of Prescott, WI; also brother Harold Fasbender of Hastings. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Cole Kracke will be held 11 AM Thursday, January 10, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth St., Hastings with visitation after 9:30 AM at church. Interment with graveside Military Honors provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post #1210 will be held at St. Mary�s Cemetery Big River, WI.The pallbearers are Gary Schommer, Ronald Schommer, Peter Schommer, Robert Young, Michael Pace, and Terry Stuhr.
