Merle C. Knutson

Merle C. Knutson of Hastings, a former sergeant in the Office of Corrections for the Dakota County Sheriff's Office died June 3, 2007, in Hastings. He was 80 years old. He was born June 8, 1926 in Henricks, MN, the son of Christian and Grace Knutson. He served in the United States Navy. He married Caryl Nelson June 22, 1947, in Valley City, ND. in addition to his employment with Dakota County Sheriff's Office, he also worked at H.D. Hudson Manufacturing and Peavey Mill (ConAgra). He was a member of the American Legion and the Hastings Police Reserves. He is survived by wife, Caryl of Hastings; children, Randy (Diane) Knutson of Hastings; Michael (Martha) Knutson of Gladstone, MI; Thomas Knutson of New Richmond, WI; Susan Knutson of Hastings; Kimberly (Michael) Walderon of Hastings; Barbara (Michael) Fuchs of Hastings; grandchildren, Nathan (Kristine); Matthew; Joshua; Sean; Sandi; Karen; Benjamin; Joel; Jennifer; Trevor; Kaitlyn; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. A funeral service was held June 6, 2007, at Cornerstone Bible Church in Hastings, with Rev. James Bzoskie officiating. Interment was in Lakeside Cemetery, Hastings. Military honors were provided by the Lyle Russell VFW Post 1210 Honor Guard. The pallbearers were Nathan Knutson, Joel Knutson, Matthew Knutson, Joshua Knutson, Sean Knutson and Karen Knutson. The Wise Family Funeral Home was in chards of the arrangements.
