Mercedes Ruth Schmitz

Mercedes Ruth Schmitz, age 89, of Hastings, passed away at Regina Assisted Living on April 1, 2012. She was born in Chicago, IL on December 10, 1922 to Jeremiah and Mary Black. She married Jerome Schmitz on June 15, 1946 in Chicago. She was a loving mother and grandmother who had a lifelong appreciation and love of antiques. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Edward; grandson, Jeffrey Riordan; her parents and sisters, Marcena; Jean; and Mary. She is survived by her children, Jerome II 'J' (Annie) Schmitz; Pat (Charlie) Swanson; Sue (Kevin) Riordan; Charity Angle; and Faith (Joe) Bratton; 22 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brothers, Jeremiah; Bob; and Byron; sister, Dorsey Shiplov; and many other relatives and friends.Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday (4/3), 2:00 p.m. at Regina Memorial Chapel, 1175 Nininger Rd., Hastings. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to mass. Interment in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials preferred to Allina Hospice.
