Melvin L. Schanno

Melvin L. Schanno, age 74 of Hastings died at his home on September 7, 2011. Melvin was born on December 23, 1936 in Hampton to Leo and Irene (Hoffman) Schanno. He married Mary Lorentz on July 20, 1957 at St. Mary�s Catholic Church in New Trier and was a 42 year employee with Koch/Flint Hills prior to his retirement. Melvin especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, and was also an avid reader, sports fan and loved golf. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Mary Young and Monica Rehder, andhis brother Leo Schanno Jr. Melvin is survived by his wife Mary; daughters Suzanne Schanno of Burnsville and Carol (David) Johnson of Alexandria, VA; five grandchildren Andrew and Luke Stadtler, Nathaniel, Isaac, and Hannah Johnson; sisters Imelda Ludwig of Dundas, MN, Anita Eckert of California; and brother Michael Schanno of Utah. The Memorial Mass, officiated by Rev. James Perkl will be held 1pm Saturday, September 10, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. Fifteenth St., Hastings with a visitation held after 11:30am at the church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
