Mary D. Sorenson, age 95 of Hastings, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday morning, April 28, 2020, at Augustana Care of Hastings. Mary Darlene, the daughter of Maynard and Winifred (Farrell) Naig, was born on January 22, 1925, in Deuel County, South Dakota. Following her graduation from Clear Lake High School, Mary attended business school and secretarial school. On May 29, 1944, Mary was united in marriage to Alfred Sorenson in South Dakota They were blessed with six children, many wonderful memories, and thirty-seven years of marriage prior to his passing on September 22, 1981. Mary was a dedicated homemaker who loved her flower gardens and baking. She was a founding member of the Regina Auxiliary, and a dedicated member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church where she was active in the Rosary Society and Daughters of Isabella. Mary enjoyed traveling around the world with many family members and friends. She was a longtime volunteer at both Regina and Augustana. Most of all, Mary " grandma boom-boom" loved the time spent with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred; siblings, Tom Naig and Ioana Sorenson; two grandsons, Nick Gunter, and John Sorenson; great granddaughter, Grace Kinzer; son-in-law, Rick Kinzer; and by her daughter-in-law, Kris Sorenson. Mary is survived by her children, Susan Kinzer, Linda (John) Gunter, Mary (Mike) Gove, Michael (Kathy) Sorenson, Stephen Sorenson, and Paul (Tina) Sorenson; thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; sister, Maynora (DeWayne) Kirk; special friends, Wanda Gunter and Lorraine Humbert; and by many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2020, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings. Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends are cordially invited to visitation for one hour prior to Mass, and to a reception following the burial, all at the funeral home on July 9. In lieu of flowers, Mary's family requests memorial be made to Meals on Wheels, Hastings Family Service, or to the donor's choice in her memory. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
