M. Jean Cain

Jean Cain passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 21, 2025 at Benedictine Living Community in Hastings, MN.

She was born in Gilbertville, Iowa on January 6, 1933, to parents Elizabeth (Schmitz) and John Etringer. She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Cain, in 1953, and were blessed with four children, starting their family in Iowa and later moving to Hastings in 1971.

Jean was a loving wife and mother, welcoming each and every new addition to the family. She was deeply committed to her faith and her family. She was generous and extremely hard working, volunteering extensively with her church, Regina Hospital and Auxiliary, in addition to many other organizations and causes. We’ll never know how many people she touched with her countless hours of prayers, Adoration, and many kindnesses. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, decorating, social and card playing outings with many good friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Ann, Jim, Ray and Marge, and her loving husband Tom. She is survived by children Tim (Patty), Dave (Janet), Kelly Carufel (Keith) and Chris (Heidi); 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend a special Thank You for the loving care and comfort provided by the Benedictine Living Community and St. Croix Hospice.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. prior to Mass. A luncheon will follow the service at the church with a private family interment at the parish cemetery immediately following the lunch. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
