Mary A. Schaffer, 85, of Hampton passed away at her home, surrounded by family and a dear friend, on March 9, 2023.
She was born January 16, 1938 to Joseph and Rose DeGross in New Market/Farmington area and grew up on the farm. Mary attended school in Farmington, Minnesota.
Mary married Charles F. Schaffer on June 22, 1963 at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton and together raised their four children.
She was dedicated to her husband and her family whom she loved dearly. She spent her life working hard on the farm attending church every Sunday and church dinners around the state that she and Charles enjoyed. She always had a snack for her grandchildren.
Mary loved working in her beautiful garden, flowers were her glory. Mary also loved her time at the Northfield Farmers Market and attended just short of 50 years every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. She also liked watching soap operas, ice fishing and Wheel of Fortune uninterrupted.
She is survived by her children, Rhonda Schaffer, CaSondra (Joseph Siebenaler) Schaffer, Craig & Carrie (Tate) Schaffer; grandchildren, Ethan & Emily (Sperry) Schaffer, Weston Ledman, Alex Schaffer, Levi Schaffer, Kraig Schaffer, Claudia Schaffer, Samuel Schaffer; great-grandchildren, Parker Vargas; several siblings, relatives and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; spouse, Charles F. Schaffer; son, Charles J. Schaffer; 3 siblings
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2023, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Trier. Interment will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Cemetery in Hastings, Minnesota.
Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 9:00 am to 11:00 a.m., and to a reception immediately following the Mass, all at church on Friday.
