Marvin Raway, age 92 of Hastings, died peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, April 17, 2018, at Regina Medical Center in Hastings. Louis Marvin Joseph, the son of Benno and Martha (Gerlach) Raway, was born on September 28, 1925, in Miesville, Minnesota. Following his education, Marvin played for the Miesville Mudhens baseball team from 1938 to 1943. In December of 1943, he enlisted in the United States Navy, and was granted an Honorable Discharge in April of 1946. On July 22, 1950 at 11:00 a.m., Marvin was united in marriage to Maxine Cecilia Judge at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Hastings, with Reverend Patrick J. Ryan officiating. They were blessed with six wonderful children and nearly 68 years of marriage. Marvin was a longtime employee at 3M, and retired as a Senior Technologist. He was a dedicated member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1600, American Legion Post 47, and a lifetime member of the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post 1210, where he actively participated in the Color Guard for many years. Marvin enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, working in the yard, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lucille Doffing; and by his brother, Kenneth Raway. Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Maxine Cecilia Raway; children, Marvin J. (Wendy) Raway, Kevin J. (Patty) Raway, Kenneth C. (Linde) Raway, Mary Patrice Raway, Mark E. (Sabrina) Raway, and Terrence J. (fianc, Tania Proksch) Raway; grandchildren, Dawn (Doug) Heagren, Ann (Jeff) Dohmen, Kenneth V. (Emily Marie) Raway, Christopher (Emily Violet) Raway, Blake E. Raway, Maximillian L. Raway, Brandon (Jessica) Carlson, and Alexander Raway; great grandchildren, Lauren Dohmen, Ella Dohmen, Katherine Heagren, Oliver Heagren, Jackson Raway, Joseph Raway, Zoey Carlson, and Nolan Carlson; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father Michael Barsness officiating. Interment with Military Honors provided by Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post 1210 will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday morning at church. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
