Marvin Leroy Chapman

Marvin L. Chapman, age 79 of Hastings, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, June 13, 2017, at Regina Medical Center in Hastings, following an extended illness. Marvin LeRoy, the son of Howard and Madeline (Knoll) Chapman, was born on August 6, 1937, in Hastings. Following his graduation from Hastings High School in 1956, Marvin began working at Hudson Sprayers for a short time and later at 3M until his retirement in the mid 1980s. In 1962, Marvin was united in marriage to Mary Ann Leier in St. Anthony Village. Marvin was an avid sports fan, especially for the Minnesota teams. He also enjoyed being active in a bowling league, roller skating, shooting pool, fishing, and of course, golfing. Marvin will always be remembered as a very generous man and was proud of his 30 plus years of sobriety. He was preceded in death by his parents. Marvin is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Chapman; his children, Mike (Orleen) Chapman, Kerry (Gregg) Tiger, and Michelle Chapman; his adoptive daughter, Kari Melan; his grandchildren, Jake (Colleen) Boothe, Elisa Norton, and Cody Norton; his great grandchildren, Violet and Kinslee; his only brother, Clarence "Chappy" (Ila) Chapman; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father David Hennen officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings, and will continue for one hour prior to Mass at church on Saturday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hastings Family Service, Alcoholics Anonymous, or to the donors choice in his memory.
