Marlys Bauer, age 77 of Hastings, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. Marlys Jean, the daughter of William and Theresa (Roth) Krismer, was born on July 6, 1939, in St. Paul. She attended Harding High School and graduated with the class of 1957. Shortly after graduating, Marlys met the love of her life, John Bauer, at a dance and they were later married on October 7, 1961, at Sacred Heart in St. Paul. Marlys first began working at White Drug and later was a co-owner of Rivertown Interiors. Later in life, she enjoyed working at Treasure Island in both the bingo hall as well as the gift shop. She and John were also dedicated foster parents for over fifteen years. Marlys loved sewing, crocheting, and knitting and would often make her famous mittens for family and friends. She also enjoyed being an artist by painting and sketching, as well as her talent for interior decorating. Most of all, Marlys loved spending time with her family at their cabin in Breezy Point. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Dick Krismer and Ken (Edith) Krismer; her sister-in-law, Pat Krismer; her sons, Joseph in infancy and Michael "Mike" Bauer on August 5, 2016; and by her great grandchild, Maverick Ellingson. Marlys is survived by her loving husband, John of Hastings; her children, Duane (Colleen) Bauer, Colleen "Kelly" (Doug) Franzen, and foster son, Mike Maron; her grandchildren, Lindsey (Lance) Lisowski, Jenna (Pat DeBaere) Bauer, Emma Bauer, Nicole (Ryan) Ellingson, Johnny Bauer, Alex Franzen, and Corey Franzen; her great grandchildren, Sasha, Logan, Landon, and baby Ellingson due in July; her siblings, Jerry Krismer, Bill (Jackie) Krismer, and Mary (Rich) Hitzemann; her sister-in-law, Angie Krismer; her honorary daughter-in-law, Cindy Davis; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hastings, with Father T.J. McKenzie officiating. Visitation will be held at church on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Private family interment will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred in memory of Marlys. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
