Marion Frances (Miller) PeinePassed away peacefully in Hastings, surrounded by her family on the day after her 89th birthday. Preceded in death by her husband Nick, daughter Anne Brochman, and two grandchildren. Survived by children Carol Raleigh (Lynn Gallup), Mark Peine, Linda (Phill) Gill, Margaret (Lee) Stocking, Paul (Miki) Peine, Maureen Peine, 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother Ray Miller and sisters Dorothy Loesch, Bernice Sherry, Emiline Hamilton, Jeanne McGree, Ruth Bremer, and Audrey Connolly. Marion started her teaching career in a one room school house in Hay Creek, Mn. She taught 3rd and 4th grade at St.Boniface in Hastings, St.John's in Vermillion, and St.Mary's in New Trier. She had a lasting influence on hundreds of students, and was always pleased when someone said, 'Remember me, Mrs. Peine?' Now the secret can be told: she told each student they were one of her favorites. Marion was a study in contrasts, equally at home driving a farm truck and shopping at Dayton's Oval Room. She was a great cat lover and she loved to garden, and to play cards and dance with her many friends from Hastings, Miesville, and the surrounding community. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday (11/3) at 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. 15th St.. Visitation Sunday ( 11/2) from 3:00 - 7:00 pm at Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St. and 1 hour prior to mass at church. Interment St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery.
